They were built to be seen from a distance and understood by everyone — abstract, wordless, enormous. Ten monuments scattered across hills and battlefields, each a different idea of how concrete might hold grief and hope at once. Photographed the same way every time, they become a constellation: stars poured in cement, still burning on their empty ridges.
